Steve, Beginning Guitar, Piano, Voice
Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Stephen moved to California in the fall of 2007. In 2011, Stephen received his AA degree in Vocal Performance from Santa Monica College, where he was awarded the E.B. Brocket Memorial in 2009, and the Applied Music Program scholarship in 2011. He then transferred to UCLA in the fall of 2011, where he studied jazz vocal performance with Michele Weir, Barbara Morrison, and Ruth Price. In 2013, Stephen graduated from UCLA's Ethnomusicology Department with a B.A. in jazz voice. He has taken many courses in music and jazz theory, jazz keyboard/piano and harmonies, and music history, and has also participated in various performance ensembles. In 2013, Stephen was the lead vocalist in an a cappella jazz vocal ensemble, which received a Downbeat Award from the 36th Annual Student Music Awards. Although voice is his primary instrument, Stephen plays the guitar, bass guitar, piano, and drums, and offers beginning lessons for these instruments.
